Willy, who lives with Alzheimer’s, set of around Scotland interviewing his peers living with dementia, talking about themselves, their lives, and what they would like people to know about their condition.
A bold Mini Commission Alec’s ‘bold Generations’
In this bold Mini Commission our inspirational bold partner from ACE Voices Alex Thompson-Miller captures the essence of his Intergenerational project.
In 2022 Alec ran this brilliant intergenerational project between Heathryburn School and Kingswood Day Centre, bringing 2 generations together. P4-7 pupils visited and connected with participants living with dementia in a series of 9 workshops singing, playing & learning from each other on the way. A bold Mini Commission ‘Upon Broad Shoulders’
The members, volunteers and staff at Lochside Connections have created their own song about what their Meeting Centre means to them and their quality of life. Over a number of months, they have collaborated with local music maker David Falconer to capture their feelings about the Meeting Centre and share them with the world.
Meeting Centre Manager Laura Whitton said “When we opened Lochside Connections, we believed that there was a need for a Meeting Centre in Forfar and the last 18 months have proved us to be correct. Our membership has just kept on growing to the point at which we are running at capacity… We honestly couldn’t have imagined the Centre becoming so successful so soon.”

A bold Mini Commission McKillop & Lyon collaboration
James has been living with dementia since 1999 and has been an inspiration to many people with his activism work.
This film showcases his bold mini commission project as James collaborated with songwriter Yvonne Lyon to put 2 songs he has written to music. ‘I Still Love You’ a song written for James’ wife of 50 years and ‘Diff’rently the Same’ a song James wrote to explain his dementia.
Yvonne describes James as a ‘wonderful lyricist’ and his wife Maureen says his dementia has brought his creative talents to the fore.

James’ is well known for his dry wit usually commenting that he has lived with dementia for over 2 decades. In that time, he has inspired many with his activism in eliminating stigma and ensuring the world ‘gets to know, the real us’ for those living with a dementia diagnosis.
This music video allows us to ‘get to know, the real James’ as he wrote this love song ‘I Still Love You’ for his wife of 50 years, Maureen. Together they have 2 daughters, 2 sons and a grand-daughter.

A bold MC ‘Diff’rently the Same’ by James McKillop
James has been living with dementia since 1999 and has been an inspiration to many people with his activism work.
James has commented that Dementia is the most feared illness in the UK, and he wants these projects to allow people to have hope in their hearts, stand tall and defy the myths because as this poignant line from this song demonstrates ‘Doggedness enables me, to cope Diff’rently The Same’.
James wrote ‘Diff’rently The Same’ a song to explain his dementia and enable those living with dementia to come out of the shadows and show the world what they are capable of.
