Barbara is Remembering Together artist!

We are thrilled to share the news that bold partner Barbara Gardner-Rowell has been appointed as the East Lothian Remembering Together artist.

Remembering Together is a Covid community memorial programme taking place in every local authority area in Scotland.

Barbara has been appointed as lead artist for Phase One of the project and will work with residents and community groups to explore options and decide on what a fitting memorial or memorials within East Lothian might be. She will be delivering free creative workshops throughout the summer and be offering Walk and Talk sessions at the East Lothian Walking Festival in August.

In addition to her recent bold mini-commission, a wonderful weaving project with Dunbar Dementia Carers Support Group, she has also recently completed the MA Art and Social Practice with University of Highlands and Islands, where she engaged in participatory research on lived experiences, narrative analysis and listening as a transformative practice.

“This programme presents an exciting opportunity for me to offer my services as a social arts practitioner to the community in the co-creation of ideas for an enduring legacy for East Lothian. I am looking forward to providing welcoming creative spaces in the community for participants to share stories and ideas. My aim is for the experience to be a positive part of the healing process, offering tools to help us to live with the loss of loved ones, and developing awareness of being part of something much larger than we tend to perceive day by day in our individual lives.”

Congratulations Barbara! We look forward to hearing how this project progresses.
